Comic pulls his gig to be by her side

Russell Brand cancelled his tour date last night after his mum was involved in a car crash.

Barbara Brand, 71, was being chauffeur-driven to the comedian’s home for babysitting duties when the Audi A8 she was travelling collided with a Vauxhall Astra.

The Sun reports that she was pulled from the car with blood coming from her nose and on the back of her head before being taken to hospital, but the  injuries are not described as life-threatening.

According to the newspaper, the Astra driver then fled the scene in a second vehicle which was following his car. Police are now trying to track him down.

The accident happened in Brentwood, Essex, at 11.40am. Barbara was travelling to took after her 18-month-old granddaughter, Mabel.

Brand pulled his Re:Birth gig at His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen to be by her side. In a statement, promoters said the cancellation was due to a ‘personal emergency’.

The show will be rescheduled and original tickets will still be valid.
