On The Russell Howard Hour

John Oliver is to make his first appearance on a British TV show in almost 12 years.

The host of HBO's Last Week Tonight will be making a guest appearance on The Russell Howard Hour next month.

Oliver will be on the last episode of series one, due to air on Sky One on December 21 at 10pm – his first appearance on British TV since being a panellist  on Mock The Week in 2006.

After that, he moved to America to work as a writer and correspondent on Comedy Central’s Daily Show with Jon Stewart before landing his HBO show.

Forthcoming guests for The Russell Howard Hour over the coming weeks will be Jamie Oliver, John Oliver, Sarah Millican and Roisin Conaty, it has also been announced today.

The show will return for a second series in 2018.

It launched in September with 215,000 viewers - almost three times Sky's slot average and particularly strong with viewers aged 16-34 – as well as spawning a number of clips that have gone viral online.

The Russell Howard Hour is produced by Avalon, which also makes Last Week Tonight – and whose management arm represents both Oliver and Howard.
