Throat infection hits her West End debut

Miranda Hart has been forced to pull out of her West End musical role because of a throat infection.

The comic has so far missed six performances of Annie, where she plays orphanage boss Miss Hannigan.

She apologised to fans, but said her throat was on the mend. Understudy Anne Smith has stepped up to the role.

Hart tweeted last night: ‘All actors will concur, worst thing about the job, getting ill.Hate letting anyone down.Been gutting to be away from @AnnieMusicalUK but voice stronger every day. I'm SO sorry to all fans coming long distances. I now know the hazard of my new love - musical theatre.’

The show has been marketed almost entirely around Hart, leaving some fans disappointed.

She is only scheduled to play the role until next month, when she will be replaced by Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood.

A spokesperson for the musical, which is on at the Piccadilly Theatre in London, said that Hart had been diagnosed with a  throat infection’.

Last year, Hart had to cancel commitments including the Call The Midwife Christmas special due to a mystery illness.
