'I had to get metal detectors at my gigs after death threats'
Sarah Silverman reveals security scare
Sarah Silverman has had to install metal detectors at her gigs because of the death threats she receives.
The comedian said she was forced to step up security after her manager received menacing phone calls.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter to promote her new Netflix special A Speck Of Dust, Silverman said: ‘I got, I guess, some threats and calls to my manager's office and stuff and that made it so that they said you have to get metal detectors and security.
‘I'm not Britney Spears. I have to pay for myself, so it really cuts into… but I mean I'd rather be alive. They had to have metal detectors at all my gigs and it was a little ridiculous. People get very angry. I'm not everybody's cup of tea.’
The situation escalated after she called for a military coup against Donald Trump on Twitter.
After the president’s inauguration, Silverman tweeted: ‘WAKE UP & JOIN THE RESISTANCE. ONCE THE MILITARY IS W US FASCISTS GET OVERTHROWN. MAD KING & HIS HANDLERS GO BYE BYE.’
When asked if that was the trigger, she replied: ‘Yeah, and many other things, but that was the instigating one.’
• CNN has fired Kathy Griffin from her regular role on its New Year's Eve programme after the comedian took part in a photoshoot that depicted her holding up the bloody, decapitated head of Trump. She apologised after being roundly condemned for the image, with the president tweeting that she ‘should be ashamed of herself’, adding: ‘My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!’
