Jim Jefferies gets a late-night topical show

New deal with America's Comedy Central

Jim Jefferies is to host a new late-night topical show for Comedy Central in the States.

The as-yet untitled series of ten half-hour episodes, will debut in the summer.

‘Jim has a huge comedic voice on the global stage,’ said Comedy Central president Kent Alterman. ’During development, we also learned his talent is only surpassed by his incredible work ethic.’

The broadcaster said that in the weekly show ‘Jefferies travels around the globe to tackle the week’s top stories and most controversial issues. Plus, he’ll talk about Donald Trump because, unfortunately, there’s no way he can avoid it.’

The Australian comic – who cut is teeth on the UK circuit before making it in the States – said: ’I’d like to thank Comedy Central for this incredible opportunity. It’s always been a dream of mine to do a show in this arena and I can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve got planned.’

Jefferies has had a number of videos go viral – from his attack on stage at the Manchester Comedy Store, to his rants against gun ownership to a recent run-in with Piers Morgan on Bill Maher’s show.

He burst onto the US comedy scene in 2009 with his HBO special I Swear to God, the first of seven specials. He also co-created, wrote, produced and starred in the FX comedy series Legit, which ran for two seasons. And he released his second Netflix special Freedumb last summer.
