Tim Minchin to play Friar Tuck

In a 'gritty reboot' of Robin Hood

Tim Minchin is to play Friar Tuck in a new movie version of Robin Hood.

Kingsman star Taron Egerton will be playing the title role in  Robin Hood: Origins which promises a ‘gritty, revisionist take’ on the Sherwood Forest legend. Jamie Foxx has been cast as Little John with Irish actress Eve Hewson as Maid Marian.

The movie is being directed by Otto Bathurst, who made Peaky Blinders, and is due out in March next year, Hollywood industry website Deadline reports.

The action-adventure film portrays Hood as a war-hardened Crusader who mounts a revolt against the corrupt English crown along with a Moorish commander.

It will not be the only Minchin movie out next year, as he is co-directing and writing the music and lyrics for the DreamWorks animation Larrikins, about a bilby’s adventures in the Australian Outback.
