Celebrating the best of the Fringe

Mat Ewins, Lolly Adefope and Bob Slayer have won the Comedians’ Choice awards at the Edinburgh Fringe.

The gongs, also confusingly known as the Barry Awards UK despite having no link to the Australian accolades of the same name, were voted on solely by the comedians and comedy performers appearing at the Edinburgh fringe this year.

After a total of 241 votes were cast, Ewins took the best show category  for Mat Ewins Will Make You A Star. The nominees were  LoveHard: The House on the Hill; Police Cops: Richard Gadd: Monkey See Monkey Do and Spencer Jones Presents The Herbert in Eggy Bagel

Adefope won the best performer category for her one-woman character show, and said: ‘Finally, recognition from an awards body’.  Also shortlisted were Jordan Brookes, Kieran Hodgson, Nick Mohammed, Zoe Coombs Marr.

Bob Slayer won the ‘best person’ award for his work with Heroes of the Fringe. Also nominated were Alan Gordon from the Fringe press office, Laughing Horse promoter Alex Petty, Amy Kegg of The Counting House and  Sorcha Shanahan for Iraq & Out Loud.

The awards are presided over by comedians Gareth Morinan and Barry Ferns.
