Opposite Whitney Cummings

Brett Goldstein has been cast in a US comedy pilot.

The stand-up and actor is to star opposite American comic Whitney Cummings in her half-hour HBO show, A Lot.

It is described as a 'not-so romantic comedy' about a successful woman and her less successful boyfriend, to be played by Goldstein, who designs hand-drawn wallpaper.

The gimmick is that the show uses documentary elements and expert talking heads to explain the biological reasons why the characters are behaving like they do.

Cummings co-writes and executive produces the show, based on Maureen Dowd’s controversial 2005 book Are Men Necessary?: When Sexes Collide.

Last year Goldsmith starred in his first feature film, Superbob (Review) having made his breakthrough playing Tom in Ricky Gervais's Derek after a string of small TV roles.

Further significant roles include playing Casper in Nick Helm sitcom Uncle, Scott in E4's Drifters and and Danny in the David Hasselhoff vehicle Hoff The Record, which makes a return to Dave on May 6.
