Kevin Bishop to star in Porridge remake

Comic actor breaks the news on Instagram

Kevin Bishop is to star in the remake of Porridge.

The comic actor posted a picture of himself on set this morning with the hashtags 'Porridge' and 'Fletch'.

The image was spotted by comedy journalist Bruce Dessau and posted on his Beyond The Joke blog – but the image has since been removed from Instagram.

The actor will play the grandson of Ronnie Barker's original character, Norman Stanley Fletcher, who has been jailed for computer hacking.

However, the BBC has not yet confirmed any casting news.

The new script has been written by Porridge's creators Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, and is a one of a number of 'landmark' sitcoms the Corporation is rebooting this year including Are You Being Served?, Up Pompeii and In Sickness And In Health.

Bishop, who has appeared in Star Stories and his own Channel 4 sketch series, was last seen in a show about another classic sitcom – playing Private Walker actor James Beck in the dramatisation of the Dad's Army story, We're Doomed!
