Andrew Maxwell pilots in-depth satire show

Andrew Maxwell has landed a late-night, topical news pilot for Radio 4.

Late Agenda is described as being ‘for fans of The Daily Show and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’, and pledges to dig deep into the week’s big talking points.

A self-declared ‘news junkie’, the Irishman will perform stand-up on breaking stories alongside longer, more considered, magazine-style pieces.

The satirical show will record in front of a live audience at the BBC Radio Theatre on March 20 and air the following night at 11.30pm.

Maxwell said: ‘I’m delighted to be back on the airwaves, spouting my opinions and spreading my world view on Radio 4 – the station that saved my mind from melting in many a motorway traffic jam.’

A regular on The News Quiz, Maxwell has previously hosted the show Public Enemies on Radio 4, in which he explored such slow news ‘bugbears’ as the food industry, drugs trade, internet and nationalists.

Late Agenda’s producer is Sam Bryant, whose credits include The News Quiz and Mark Steel’s in Town.
