Simon Day to front rock mockumentary

New series for BBC Four

Simon Day is to front a new BBC Four series in the guise of his artistic rocker character Brian Pern.

The channel has commissioned a three-part spoof music documentary with the working title Rock Ratatouille, following a number of online videos he made in character for the corporation three years ago.

The show also promises a ‘host of cameos from the world of music and unseen footage’.

Day co-wrote the series with fellow Down The Line star Rhys Thomas, who is no stranger to real rock documentaries, as he won a Rose d’Or for his 2012 film Freddie Mercury: The Great Pretender.

BBC Four controller Janice Hadlow announced the commission at the Edinburgh International Television Festival today.

CRASHING

Before there was Fleabag, there was Crashing, a six-part comedy-drama that Phoebe Waller-Bridge created for Channel 4 in 2016. She also stars as one of six twentysomethings living together as property guardians in a disused hospital, keeping the building safe in exchange for cheaper rent. Other stars include Louise Ford, Adrian Scarborough, Amit Shah and Susan Wokoma - and now the full series has landed on Netflix.
