ITV2 comedy scoops Broadcast Award

ITV2 comedy Plebs has won one of the top accolades at the Broadcast Digital Awards.

The ancient Roman sitcom, starring Tom Rosenthal and Doon Mackichan, was crowned ‘scripted programme of the year’ at the ceremony run by the TV trade magazine.

The show was written by Sam Leifer and Tom Basden, who are currently working on six new episodes to air in the autumn. The first series was a ratings hit for the channel, with the opening episode attracting 900,000 viewers, rising to 1.7million with repeats and on-demand viewers added.

Elsewhere, BBC Three’s political hidden camera show The Revolution Will Be Televised was named best entertainment programme.

The awards at the Lancaster London Hotel celebrated non-terrestrial broadcast, as well as other platforms such as apps and games. ITV2 was crowned Channel of the Year
