A bit more Fry And Laurie?

'We talk about it all the time,' says Hugh

Hugh Laurie says he would like to reunite with Stephen Fry – perhaps for a live tour.

But he fears that at 54 and 55, the pair are too old to perform sketch comedy .

The comedian and House star appears on Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs today, and when host Kirsty Young asked if he would ever think about renewing the partnership that first made him famous, Laurie said: ‘Oh absolutely, we talk about it all the time.

But he added: ‘I think sketching is a young man’s game because I think it is by and large about mocking people who are older than you.

‘Now we are not only the age of Cabinet ministers, we are probably older than half the Cabinet.’

Instead he imagined ‘a stage revue with a couple of wing chairs and a rug and a decanter of madeira – m'colleague will recount amusing stories and I will sit at the piano and play ditties.’

A Bit Of Fry And Laurie, originally ran from 1989 to 1995.

For his desert island, Laurie, who also has a career as a blues singer, picked records from Professor Longhair, Van Morrison and Joe Cocker among others

He opted for an encyclopedia as his chosen book and two sets of throwing knives as his luxury, because ‘I would like to return from the island with an uncanny skill’.

Desert Island Discs is on Radio 4 today at 11.15am.
