Sean Lock fined £500 over train offence

Sean Lock has been fined £500 for travelling in a first-class train carriage with only a standard-class ticket.

The court also ordered him to pay another £270 in costs and surcharge over the incident in April last year.

Tower Bridge Magistrates heard that the comedian was caught by an inspector on the train from London to Littlehampton. The Southern Railways employee asked him to pay for the upgrade, but he is said to have refused.

Letters demanding he pay a penalty to save to case going to court went unanswered so the case escalated until it reached yesterday’s hearing.

Lock did not turn up to court but was found guilty of occupying a reserved seat without valid ticket - a railway byelaw - in his absence.

The 49-year-old 8 Out Of 10 Cats captain is currently on tour with his Purple Van Man show.
