HBO show starts in September

HBO has released the first teaser trailer for Stephen Merchant’s new comedy Hello Ladies.

The short clip shows the Office co-creator’s character Stuart and his friend Wade, played by Nate Torrence, awkwardly attempt to break the ice with two women in a bar.

It also reveals the US launch date of the eight-episode series to be Sunday September 29.

The show – loosely based on Merchant's 2011 live stand-up tour of the same name - revolves around an English expat’s romantic misadventures in Los Angeles. Stuart believes himself cool and urbane, despite plenty of evidence to the contrary.

Merchant wrote the series with Lee Eisenberg  and Gene Stupnitsky – who both wrote for NBC's version of The Office – and also directs.

The teaser was aired after last night’s season finale of Game Of Thrones on HBO, and has now been posted online:
