Sammy J lands Aussie TV show

Seven weeks of topical sketches

Musical comedian Sammy J is to front a weekly topical TV show in his native Australia.

The comic, who is a regular visitor to the Edinburgh Fringe, will host the seven-week sketch series Wednesday Night Fever on the publicly-funded ABC.

The ensemble cast also features other performers who may be familiar to British comedy-goers, including Heath Franklin, who sometimes performs in character as Chopper, and Dave Eastgate, who has provided musical accompaniment to Brendon Burns.

Other performers include Julia Gillard impersonator Amanda Bishop, Paul McCarthy, Genevieve Morris,  Anne Edmonds, Robin Goldsworthy, Lisa Adam and house band Boner Contention.

Jennifer Collins, ABC TV’s head of entertainment, said ‘It’s a stellar cast with the smart and witty Sammy J at the helm. The series will be a playground for these great comedic talents.’

The show starts on July 3.
