Jessica Hynes writes suffragette sitcom

New BBC Four series

Jessica Hynes has written a new BBC Four sitcom about a group of unlikely suffragettes.

Up The Women is set in 1910 and stars Hynes alongside Rebecca Front, veteran actor Judy Parfitt and Vicki Pepperdine from BBC Four’s Getting On.

Twenty Twelve star Hynes has describes the ensemble show as ‘a character study.... a kind of female Dad’s Army’.

The action revolves around a group of women in an embroidery circle in Banbury who become political activists

Hynes is also writing an hour-long pilot for a possible Sky Atlantic action series, Justine, which she calls ‘Buffy meets Kick-Ass’.
