Playing a sardonic teacher

Angus Deayton is to join the cast of BBC drama Waterloo Road.

He will play a ‘sanguine, sardonic and deeply selfish’ language teacher called George Windsor.

The series is now set in Greenock, central Scotland, after the demolition of the Rochdale school in which the previous seven series were filmed.

Deayton joins the show from episode 27 of series 8, which will air next year, the BBC says.

As well as hosting Have I Got News For You, Deayton's TV credits include appearances in Nighty Night, Pramface, and One Foot In The Grave.
