Black comedy award winners named

Nathan Caton has scooped two accolades at the black comedy awards.

The former Chortle Student Comedy Award winner was last night named both best young male comedian and best black comedian on the mainstream circuit.

Slim took the best male comedian accolade, while the tautologically named best female comedienne award went to Felicity Ethnic.

Richard Blackwood's role as Donkey in the West End version of Shrek won him the gong for best comedian in an acting role; while Gina Yashere, who now spends much of her time in the States, was named best international comedian.

The winners, chosen following a public vote, were announced at London's Bloomsbury Theatre last night, after the event was postponed from its original date in December.

There was initially no best young female comedienne category, as organisers said: '‘How many black female under 30 comedians can you name?’ But in the even they awarded it to Kayleigh 'Loudmouth' Lewis, and nominated Miss London and Variety D.
