Piff wins slot on Secret Policeman's Ball

Piff the Magic Dragon is about to get his 15 seconds of fame after winning a competition to appear at the Secret Policeman’s Ball in New York on Sunday.

The comic magician – real name John van der Put – won the vote for the best 15-second skit run by Amnesty International, and will now appear alongside Russell Brand, Noel Fielding, Sarah Silverman and Jon Stewart in front of 6,000 people at the Radio City music hall.

Piff said: ‘Dragons love New York, although New Yorkers seem to have a bad opinion of dragons ever since that whole Godzilla episode in 1998.

‘Plus, it’ll be nice to be by the sea again. I used to live there, but I moved due to lack of work.’

London based Piff won the most Facebook votes ahead of fellow nominees Martin Crozer, Haiste & Lawrence, Christian Talbot and Chris Turner.

‘Others on the bill of the Secret Policeman’s Ball – which is being held outside the UK for the first time in its history – include Kristen Wiig, Jimmy Carr and Jack Whitehall. Secret Policeman’s Ball.

The show will be broadcast on Channel 4 next Friday (March 9)
