M*A*S*H's Col Potter dies at 96

RIP actor Harry Morgan

Harry Morgan, who played Colonel Sherman Potter in 179 episodes of M*A*S*H has died at the age of 96.

He died in Los Angeles following complications from pneumonia.

Morgan, who also played Joe Friday’s partner on Dragnet, once called his M*A*S*H role ‘the best part I ever had’.

He also made made 50 films, working with the likes of Henry Fonda, John Wayne and Elvis Presley.

And he had guest comedy roles in TV series 3rd Rock From The Sun, The Simpsons, Grace Under Fire and The Jeff Foxworthy Show.

His grandparents were immigrants to the US from Norway, and he was born in Detroit on April 10, 1915.

He joined M*A*S*H in its third series, in 1974, and remained until it ended in 1983, in an episode seen by 121.6 million American viewers.
