Brandreth's son 'most likely to make a million'

Alternative Fringe awards announced

Giles Brandeth’s son Benet has been voted the Edinburgh Fringe act most likely to earn a million pounds.

He won the award at the tongue-in-cheek Malcolm Hardee awards after judges said: ‘If he doesn’t make a million quid as a performer, he’ll make it as a lawyer.’

Brandreth is an intellectual property expert with law firm 11 South Square and has been praised in the profession for being ‘extremely good on his feet and wise beyond his years’.

But he is currently in Edinburgh with the Gilded Balloon show The Brandreth Papers.

As widely expected, Kunt And The Gang and their promoter Bob Slayer received the Cunning Stunt Award, for their controversial PR technique of handing out stickers shaped like penises, and urging their audience to deface other fringe posters with them.

Johnny Sorrow received the Comic Originality award. Judges said he was ‘simply a bizarre act Malcolm Hardee would have loved.

The gongs are in honour of ‘the godfather of alternative comedy’, who drowned in the Thames in 2005.
