Imran Yusuf to host Chortle student final

Who will take the crown?

Imran Yusuf is to host the final of the Chortle Student Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Fringe on Sunday.

The best newcomer nominee, who is currently working on his own BBC Three pilot, will compere the event at Assembly George Square at 4pm.

The finalists, chosen after a series of nationwide heats and two regional semi-finals are Chris Quaile, Glenn Moore, Adam Hess, Matthew Winning as Steph E. Graph, Richard Gadd, Richard Hanrahan, Richard Stainbank and Rob Carter.

Sunday’s final will also feature a performance from last year’s winner, Phil Wang.

The judges are Chortle editor Steve Bennett; Helena Hewett from Major Management; Sophie Chapman from Avalon; Brett Vincent from Get Comedy; and Independent and Chortle reviewer Julian Hall, TV executive Graham Smith and Hannah Oldman of Old Man Management.

The final has a reputation for finding new talent: Previous acts to have taken part include The Inbetweeners' Simon Bird, his Friday Night Dinner co-star Tom Rosenthal and Radio 1's Tom Deacon.
