E4 snaps up US comedies

Including Napoleon Dynamite animation

E4 has brought the rights to US comedy series New Girl, Apartment 23,, Allen Gregory and Napoleon Dynamite.

New Girl stars Zooey Deschanel – who appeared in the big-screen version of The Hitchhikers’ Guide To The Galaxy – as a weird twentysomething girl who moves in with a group of guys after her relationship suddenly ends. The series starts on Fox in the States in September.

In Apartment 23, which has also yet to air in the US, a simple country girl moves to New York and has to cope with sharing an apartment with an immoral party-girl. It co-stars Dawson's Creek’s James Van Der Beek as a fictional version of himself.

Napoleon Dynamite is an animated version of the cult film which revolves around an eccentric 16-year-old in a small Western town who is convinced - for no apparent reason - that he is destined for greatness. Scheduled for a US release next year, it features most of the cast of the 2004 film, including Jon Heder as Napoleon.

Completing the line up is Allen Gregory, another animated comedy – this one voiced, written, and executive produced by Superbad star Jonah Hill, who plays a precocious seven-year-old being raised by his gay father. The series is expected to premiere on Fox at the end of October.

No British broadcast dates have yet been announced for the series, which have all been made by Twentieth Century Fox.

Channel 4's chief creative officer Jay Hunt said: ‘We're delighted to continue our strong relationship with Fox. Both New Girl and Apartment 23 will add to E4's reputation as the home of the best of US comedy.’
