Trevor Bannister was 76

Are You Being Served? star Trevor Bannister has died of a heart attack at the age of 76.

The actor died while repairing his shed at his allotment in Thames Ditton, Surrey, his brother John said.

Bannister played the suave Mr Lucas in the Seventies sitcom, working alongside John Inman.

Frank Thornton, 90, who played Captain Peacock said he had ‘many, many happy memories’ of his co-star, telling the BBC: ‘He was a very good friend over a long time.’

Wiltshire-born Bannister also appeared in The Avengers, Dixon of Dock Green, Z Cars and, more recently, Last Of The Summer Wine

He is survived by his second wife Pam and three sons.
