More shows, vicar?

Rev recommissioned

BBC Two has recommissioned Rev for a second series, with Peep Show’s Sam Bain joining as script editor.

He will pen the Christmas special with lead writer James Wood, who created the vicar-based sitcom with star Tom Hollander. Peter Cattaneo, the Oscar-nominated director of The Full Monty also returns to direct series two.

Premiering to 2.2 million viewers on BBC Two last year, Rev has garnered much crucial acclaim and award nominations.

Bain said: ‘Rev was my favourite new show of 2010, it was a great achievement to carve such a funny show out of such challenging material.

‘I'm excited to be part of the team and contribute my experience of writing about religious extremists and sexually frustrated men.’

Cheryl Taylor, controller of comedy commissioning for the BBC, said: ‘Rev. was one of the comedy highlights of last  year and we’re thrilled to be returning to St Saviour’s to see more of  the Rev Smallbone and his hilarious and moving pastoral, marital and spiritual  challenges. We're looking forward to a truly exceptional second series.’

Filming for series two will start in East London this summer and will air in the autumn.
