Stan Laurel's house to be sold

Bids start at £40,000

The terraced house where Stan Laurel lived as a baby is to be auctioned off.

Bids for the modest two-bedroomed property in Bishop Auckland will start at £40,000 at the sale later this month.

A blue commemorative plaque above the door reads: ‘Stan Laurel (Arthur Stanley Jefferson) of Laurel and Hardy lived in this house with his parents. He was baptised in St Peter’s Church on 21st October 1891.’

Estate agent Keith Pattinson – which is auctioning the property at Newcastle Falcons rugby club on March 29 – have said they hope the property would attract Laurel fans.
