O Briain takes a year off

No tour shows in 2011

Dara O Briain says he won’t be touring next year – after spending 150 nights on the road in 2010.

He is the second comedian to announce a year out within a week, after Stewart Lee announced a 12-month hiatus after he finishes work on his BBC Two show so he can spend time with his young family.

O Briain, too, said he wanted to spend more time at home with his wife Susan and his two-year-old daughter.

In an interview with the RTE Guide, the comic was asked what his perfect Christmas present would be, and replied: ‘After 150 days on the road, to be not on the road would be great. In fact, I won't be touring at all next year. That's my gift to myself.’
