Radio 4 to launch second comedy podcast

Radio 4 is to launch a second weekly comedy podcast, Chortle can reveal.

The new year launch follows the success of its current Friday Night podcast of topical shows, which is downloaded 1.2 million times every month.

That podcast, which alternates between The News Quiz, The Now Show and other programmes in the 6.30pm slot, is currently the top-ranking audio podcast on iTunes.

From January 10 the station is launching a companion strand called Comedy Of The Week: Mondays Don’t Have To Be Miserable, featuring a show chosen from the week’s broadcast schedules.

It starts off with the Mark Thomas Manifesto, four days after the comedian’s series returns to the air.
