Kay earns his Freedom

Sitcom for Scottish comic David

Scottish stand-up David Kay is to star in his own sitcom, co-written by Absolutely star Moray Hunter.

In Freedom, he plays recently unemployed 30-something Frank Higgins, who is half-heartedly looking for a new job while his wife Jo keeps them afloat by working as a therapist.

A pilot episode of the show – described as a ‘laidback, quirky comedy set in Stirling’ – will air on BBC Two Scotland on December 7, after which it will be available to the rest of the UK via iPlayer.

Kay, who is just about to record the second series of his Radio 4 comedy show Mordrin McDonald: 21st-Century Wizard, wrote the show with Hunter. It will be produced by North Inch Productions, they company they set up with Mary Bell, who was executive producer of Father Ted.

The pilot also features Scottish actors Victoria Balnaves, Donald Pirie and Louise Ludgate and Ireland’s Aisling Bea.
