Inbetweeners 'to end'

This series will be the last, says writer

The Inbetweeners is set to end after this series, its writers have said.

The news will be a blow to E4 as the sitcom has become the channel’s biggest hit, attracting up to 2.5million viewers an episode.

But co-creator Damon Beesley says there are unlikely to be any more series as the scripts have already taken the lead characters all the way through sixth form.

He told The Sun: ‘In our minds, we've always thought that this series, this [school] year, is obviously the closing of the story. I don't anticipate there being another series of them at school.’

Work is under way on a movie, in which the quartet go on holiday together without their parents for the first time, but after that, the characters would disperse to different universities, making a fourth series difficult.

Beesley said he and co-writer Iain Morris might wrap up the show with a post-movie special showing what happens after the holiday, although they ‘haven't made any firm decisions’ yet.
