Matt Lucas sues the Daily Mail

Grief story 'invaded privacy'

Matt Lucas has launched legal action against the Daily Mail, claiming a story about how he was affected by the suicide of his former civil partner breached his privacy.

According to a High Court writ, the story headlined ‘How Matt Lucas learnt to laugh again’ left the comedian upset and distressed.

He is now seeking aggravated damages, claiming the ‘wrongful’ story was a ‘very serious invasion of privacy and intrusion into grief’.

The story appeared in March, five months after his former civil partner Kevin McGee, died.

Lucas claims that much of the information and quotes in the story were false, including claims that he blamed himself for McGee’s death.
