Russell Brand, swordsman

Swashbuckling role lined up

Russell Brand already has something of a reputation as a ‘legendary swordsman’ – and now he might have found a film role to live up to that.

The comic is in talks with executives at 20th Century Fox to play a swashbuckling 14th century hero John Hawkwood.

He went to their comedy head Nicky Weinstock with the idea of a film about the ‘morally challenged’ but gifted mercenary who lead armies in Italy.

According to deadline.com, Fox has hired a writer, Jared Stern, to create a screenplay tailored around Brand’s image.

The comic is currently filming the remake of classic Dudley Moore comedy Arthur.
