Frank's push for No 1 is on

Guess Who's Been On MOTD? released

Frank Sidebottom’s song Guess Who’s Been On Match Of The Day has been released for a posthumous push at the No 1 slot.

Fans have been organising an internet campaign to get the papier-mache-headed character to the top of the charts since Sidebottom’s creator Chris Sievey died last month.

A short version of his classic football song has gone on sale on iTunes today as a double A-side with The Robbins Aren’t Bobbins – and sales from now until 1.30pm on Saturday go towards the chart rankings. At the time of writing, the single was No 56 on the iTunes chart.

Campaign organisers said on Twitter: ‘If you would've bought Frank a pint spend the cash on multiple downloads of the single. Don't forget crisps and pop for Little Frank.’

However, multiple downloads from the same source are not believed to count towards the charts.

The single has been released in time for Frank's Fantastic Send Off – a free tribute gig to the comedian being held in Manchester’s Castlefield Arena from 9pm tomorrow (Thursday) which will include a set from Badly Drawn Boy.

Sievey was 54 when he died on June 21, soon after he was diagnosed with cancer. After it was reported that he was facing a pauper's funeral, having died virtually penniless, fans raised more than £21,600 to help.
