Gervais signs up for Curb

Playing himself in Series 8

Ricky Gervais will star in the next series of Curb Your Enthusiasm, he confirmed today.

Earlier this year, creator Larry David revealed that he had asked The Office creator to be in the show’s eight series – and now his casting has been confirmed.

‘I was offered a role a few seasons back but couldn’t do it as I was filming Extras,’ Gervais said.

‘I’ve always wanted to work with Larry as I consider him one of the most important comedic minds of the past 50 years. He is also one of the nicest people I know.’

David said of Gervais: ‘He’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. I also used to watch Extras and think, I wish I’d thought of that.’

The series will be filmed this summer in New York, where Gervais has a home. ‘It’s perfect for me as I can walk to work,’ he said. ‘I won’t walk obviously. I’ll take a limo. But I could walk if I had to.’

Gervais will play himself in the acclaimed HBO series.
