It's Gavin & Statesy

US remake on the cards

An American remake of Gavin and Stacey is on the cards after the ABC network ordering a pilot episode.

The broadcaster has drafted in its own writers to produce a script, based on the originals by James Corden and Ruth Jones – According To Jim writer Hayes Jackson and former Spin City writer Hayes Jackson.

Traub is also producing and writing a remake of Sharon Horgan’s acclaimed BBC Three sitcom Pulling for ABC.

The BBC’s commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, is producing the ABC pilot, according to Hollywood trade magazine Variety.

Last year, it was reported that the rival NBC network was working on its own version of Gavin and Stacey, but it is not unusual for ideas to be dropped by one network and picked up by another before they hit the screen.

ABC has also ordered two other sitcom pilots: 18 Years, about a young couple who must adjust to life as parents, from King of Queens writers Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith; and another about a thirtysomething woman promoted to manager of a young team who are ‘looking for a boss that can also double as a mother, therapist, coach and friend’
