Steptoe En Zoon

Dutch to remake sitcom classic

Steptoe And Son is to return to TV – but in Dutch.

Producers in the Netherlands have bought the rights to remake a series of Galton and Simpson’s scripts in their native tongue, and have signed 62-year-old actor and singer Andre van Duin to play the ‘dirty old man’ role.

Galton and Simpson’s manager Tessa Le Bars told the Daily Express: ‘There were three enquiries about doing the show there all at the same time.’

‘We went with this particular guy. They’ve still to decide who will be playing the younger character.’

The Dutch have already remade Steptoe once, as Stiefbeen En Zoon in 1964, two years after the Harry H Corbett and Wilfrid Brambell original began. The show was a hit, running for three series and winning awards.

The new version will again be called Stiefbeen En Zoon, according to the reports.
