Eric Morecambe: The theme pub

New boozer planned

A new pub is to be opened, themed entirely around Eric Morecambe.

The new bar will be in the Lancashire town which gave the comic his surname, opposite Graham Ibbeson’s famous bronze statue.

Pub and hotel chain Mitchells, which has just brought the seafront property, also plans to have a visitors centre devoted to Morecambe, featuring footage of great Morecambe & Wise moments.

The company is in talks with Morecambe’s family to finalise plans, but joint managing director Andrew Barker told pub trade paper The Morning Advertiser: ‘A few things have still to be sorted out, but we are now well on the way to completing the details.

‘The building will house a traditional pub and restaurant area and the visitors’ centre will include an interactive section.’

The pub is expected to be open by next Easter.
