Wood's got Talent

New revival of her 1978 hit

Victoria Wood is to direct a new version of her comedy play Talent in London this autumn.

Originally premiered in 1978, the show is set at a nightclub’s talent night, where two friends are waiting backstage to take their turn amid ‘ukulele-wielding pensioners and crotch-grabbing compères’.

After its debut in Sheffield, Talent transferred to London and was adapted for television, bringing Wood together with Julie Walters for the first time.

The new version will run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, London Bridge, from September 17 to November 14 after previewing at the Old Laundry Theatre, Bowness. No casting details have yet been announced.

Wood herself got her big break on a talent show: winning New Faces in 1974.
