Demetri lands baseball movie

Starring opposite Brad Pitt

Demetri Martin has landed a starring star alongside Brad Pitt in a new Hollywood movie.

The quirky American comic will appear in director Steven Soderbergh’s new film Moneyball, about real-life baseball coach Billy Beane.

Martin will play Paul De Podesta, a Harvard economics graduate who used his statistical skills to devise a new way of evaluating players’ performance. The system allowed Beane – who will be played by Pitt - to work out the best-value players, so enabling him to build a successful team cheaply.

A group of actual baseball players will also be playing themselves in the picture, which begins shooting in June, trade magazine Variety reports.

Martin, who won the 2003 Perrier Award, will next be seen in the film Taking Woodstock, directed by Ang Lee, which will be released in the US in August.
