BBC4 plans oligarch comedy

Billionare show from Brydon's company

BBC Four is planning a comedy-drama series about a Russian billionaire living in London.

The channel has commissioned Rob Brydon’s new production company Arbie to make a pilot episode of the series, called Freddi.

It has been co-written by Mark Staheli and Sacha Alexander, who also takes the lead role; while Brydon has been script editor and will take a small role.

Arbie, managing director Miles Ross said: 'Sacha has created in Freddi that rare thing, a brilliantly funny yet completely believable character. We are very excited about the script and can't wait to get shooting.'

Arbie, set up just three months ago, is also working on a BBC Three pilot with Garth Marenghi star Alice Lowe, called Lifespan.

The show, a spoof 'shock doc' will also feature Steve Brodie, Margaret Cabourn-Smith, Justin Edwards, Simon Farnaby, Richard Glover, Sharon Horgan, Tom Meeten, Steve Oram, Clare Thompson and Rosalyn Wright.
