New BBC3 comedy for the web

BBC Three has commissioned a ‘truly innovative’ comedy drama about a girl band, designed to be seen on the internet and phones before TV.

The show will be written by Karl Minns, whose credits include Touch Me I'm Karen Taylor, and has the working title Mouth to Mouth.

It will follow the fictional band Cat's Eyes: played by Holby City's Ayesha Antoine, KateModern's Pippa Duffy, and Anna Nightingale, who played Princess Margaret in a recent Channel 4 film.

The BBC will post the episodes first on social networking sites, its own website and via mobile phones before it airs later this year. Extra content will also be created just for distribution online.

Executive producer Jon Thoday, of Avalon Television, said: ‘We are delighted to be producing this truly innovative programme for BBC Three bringing content to the audience on their preferred platform.’

BBC Three controller Danny Cohen said: ‘BBC Three is committed to producing a steady stream of innovative and creative multi-platform projects. The latest of these, Mouth to Mouth, is all about powerful writing and great acting talent. The essentials of quality content are not going to change, whatever the platform.’
