Silence proves golden

BBC pilot for Japanese duo

Silent comedy double act Gamarjobat have landed their own BBC Three show.

The Japanese duo – Ketch and Hiro-pon – will record a half-hour pilot episode in September, following their month-long run at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe.

The show – to be made by Mighty Boosh producers Baby Cow and Brighton-based Komedia Entertainment – will air later in the year.

Gamarjobat first appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2004 and since then the duo, with their distinctive dyed Mohicans, have become regulars on the UK festival circuit. They also have a three-week Broadway run at the New Victory Theatre in May next year.

The pair have previously appeared on Blue Peter, The Paul O’Grady Show and the children’s BBC talent show The Slammer. Although it sounds Japanese, their name actually means ‘hello’ in Georgian.

Their new BBC Three pilot was commissioned by channel controller Danny Cohen and BBC’s controller of comedy commissioning Lucy Lumsden.

Here they are in action:
