Fawlty wins again

Another victory in a viewers' vote

Fawlty Towers has been voted the ‘most iconic’ TV comedy show of all time.

The show received almost a third of the 3,000 votes cast online., followed by Blackadder, with 26 per cent, and Only Fools And Horses, on 16 per cent. In total, the top three programmes nabbed three-quarters of all votes, leaving little room for any other show.

The poll for Britain's favourite male television character followed the same pattern with Basil Fawlty beating Del Boy into second place.

Vicar Of Dibley Geraldine Granger was named the most popular female television character, ahead of Absolutely Fabulous's Patsy Stone and The Good Life's Barbara Good.

Del and Rodney Trotter were named ‘most iconic’ screen duo in British television history, beating The Two Ronnies and Basil and Sybil Fawlty.

The poll of 3,000 people was taken by MSN to coincide with tomorrow night’s Bafta awards.
