Langham to address Oxford Union

Actor will speak of 'vilification'

Chris Langham is to address the Oxford Union about his imprisonment for downloading child pornography.

The award-winning actor will talk about his ‘vilification’ in the media after his conviction for 15 counts of downloading images of children.

Ben Tansey, president of the historic debating society, said Langham had been invited to talk on May 27 because he was a respected figure in comedy.

He added: ‘I know some people might have a few reservations but he has served his time in jail. He will be talking about the run-up to his conviction and how he has been vilified in the media so quickly.’

But children's charity Kidscape said the invitation was a ‘very disappointing’ publicity stunt and worried about the ‘the message it sends out to the victims’.

Langham was jailed for 10 months at Maidstone Crown Court last September after being found guilty of the offences.
