NBC drops comedy website

Clips attracted too little traffice

America’s NBC network is to drop its DotComedy website.

The site, offering clips, sketches and standup, was plugged across national TV, but still failed to attract much interest. Web traffic monitor Alexa rates it as only the 93,573th most popular destination on the internet.

Hollywood trade paper Variety said the content, much of which was specially commissioned for the site, will now be distributed on other NBC websites and that staff who worked on it will be redeployed.

The news comes as many UK companies launch websites dedicated to comedy content, including Warner Music, which has launched comedybox, and RDF Media which has RoughCuts in the pipeline.
