Film honour for Gorman

Documentary charts his US adventure

Dave Gorman’s latest documentary has won an audience award at an independent US film festival.

America Unchained won the audience vote for best documentary feature at the Austin Film Festival in Texas.

The film charts the former stand-up’s quest to drive across the US without spending a cent in a restaurant, hotel or petrol station owned by a corporate chain.

During his journey, he slept in a Colorado trailer park and an Oregon forest treehouse, stole food from the Republican Party in Utah and was threatened by men with guns in Mississippi.

The 75-minute film was commissioned by Channel 4, and will air on More 4 in January; and a book of his exploits is due out in April.

Gorman wrote the film, which was directed by Andy Devonshire, who previously worked on The Apprentice.
