Al Murray writes his first book

Al Murray has written his first book, in the guise of the Pub Landlord

The comic landed a deal with Hodder & Stoughton to publish his hardback Book Of British Common Sense on October 11, priced £18.99.

Chapters will include Left-Handedness Is Not Normal; Why It's Time To Bring Back Hanging If Only For The Sake Of The Rope Industry; and The British Character Traits That What Which Have Made Us Great.

Murray said, in character as the Landlord: ‘For too long now common sense has been buried beneath a steaming heap of waffle, so-called expertise, as dished out by surveys, scientists, opinion makers, graduates, politicians, journalists and other assorted idiots.

‘Their combined bad thinking includes: the belief that no one should win in running races at school in case anyone gets upset; the idea that owning a house in France is a decent way to spend your money; the belief that if your kids are naughty they are somehow sick; speed cameras; mineral water; hummus; the fact that everyone reckons they’ve got asthma; and the idea that you need to drive your kids to school so they won’t be run over by the people driving their kids to school.’

“It is time for us to let the sweet light of British common sense shine through this mire of nonsense and show us the way’

Murray is also releasing a DVD of his live show …And Another Thing on November 19.

A second series of Al Murray’s Happy Hour will return to ITV1 in January, while the channel also has plans for a second An Audience With Al Murray.

The book will be available from Amazon, here.
