Comedy talent show renewed

The American stand-up talent hunt Last Comic Standing has been renewed for a sixth series next summer.

This year, the reality show also held auditions in Britain, Australia and Canada – and UK acts Matt Kirshen and Gina Yashere, pictured are still in the running for the $250,000 top prize.

The show, which goes out on NBC at 9pm on Wednesdays, is attracting an average audience of 6.7 million viewers.

Executives have also announced that fellow talent show America’s Got Talent, judged by David Hasselhoff, Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan, will be returning for a third series next year,

NBC’s Craig Plestis said: ‘Both of these innovative series have proven to be summer staples and important franchises.

‘We have the most-watched show in America's Got Talent and one of the most upscale series in Last Comic Standing, and now viewers can look forward to seeing these popular brand series with fresh new shows again next summer.’

The final of the current series of Last Comic Standing takes place on September 19. The winner will also receive a contact with NBC Universal and a half-hour comedy special on the Bravo cable network .
