Soap role for Sean Hughes

Sean Hughes is to join the cast of Coronation Street.

The comic will play a potential love interest for single mum Eileen Grimshaw, who has always been unlucky in love.

She will reportedly fall for Hughes’ character, Pat, but he will turn out to be not all he seems.

An unnamed insider on the soap told The Sun: ‘Pat asks Eileen out on a date and they have a brilliant time. She’s hoping that something serious will develop between them.’

Hughes will make his debut in early June.

The former Never Mind The Buzzcocks captain has recently returned to stand-up after an absence of eight years. He is also currently starring as Mod in ITV1 drama The Last Detective.

Hughes won\'t be the first comic to appear in the Street. Both Peter Kay and Roy Hudd have been recent additions to the cast.
